Restaurant Inspection Ratings

Overview

Inspection ratings have changed to an A, B, C, D, F format, with an F rating representing closure. Ratings are strictly based on the number of violations observed during a routine inspection and the correlating tables below. Inspectors have no discretion regarding the assigned rating.

Violation categories

Priority (P)

An item whose application contributes directly to the elimination, prevention, or reduction to an acceptable level of hazards associated with foodborne illness or injury, and there is no other provision that more directly controls the hazard.

Priority Foundation (Pf)

An item whose application supports, facilitates, or enables one or more Priority items.

Core (C)

An item that usually relates to general sanitation, operational controls, sanitation standard operating procedures, facilities or structures, equipment design, or general maintenance.

Establishments with 5 or fewer facilities

Find the rating by matching the number of Priority (P) violations, listed down the left side, with the number of Priority Foundation (Pf) violations, listed across the top.

• 8 or more Core violations result in the rating lowering one grade.
• 3 or more repeats of Priority violations result in the lowering of one grade.
• 4 or more repeats of Priority Foundation violations result in the lowering of one grade.
• 5 or more repeats of a combination of Priority and Priority Foundation violations result in the lowering of one grade.
